What's the best method for getting screen captures from DVDs?

What I tried first was pressing the pause "button" on the DVD interface, then pressing Ctrl+Print Screen and pasting the results into MS Paint, but that method just didn't work. When I first pasted the image into a graphics program (either MS Paint or Paint Shop Pro) it ended up invariably getting cropped differently than it appeared on screen, and then when I reopened the image it was just empty black space. I've been told that Windows Media Player has a "save image" option when the DVD is paused, but I haven't figured out how to activate that.
